‘Antichrist’ Shows Up on Your Doorstep for Halloween

By  · Published on June 25th, 2009

I thought about creating a title that would evoke a sense of the rising of the dark destroyer of the world coming around the time of the spookiest of all holidays, but instead I decided to evoke the image of a young child only dressed as the Antichrist trick ‘r’ treating in your neighborhood. You’re welcome.

Unfortunately, since all of you are true Rejects (and therefore film fans), you probably got the image of a naked Willem Dafoe showing up asking for candy.

Which is incredibly accurate since IFC Films is going to be shoving Lars Von Trier’s (fresh out of Cannes!) Antichrist into theaters in Los Angeles and New York on October 23. I’m guessing they didn’t want to go head to head with Saw 39.

This raises some awesome questions:

Antichrist stars Willem Dafoe (as “He”) and Charlotte Gainsbourg (as “She”). Those are seriously their character names, and, yes, that does make me worried about liking it. But if you live in Los Angeles or New York, be ready with some Bit-O-Honey for the pair when they hit theaters near you. Or, if you’re impatient, you can check it out on Video On Demand two days earlier on the 21st.

What do you think?
