Movies are magical for a number of reasons but one large contributing factor is the visual aspect not available in other forms of art. Aside from the fact that the pictures actually move, which is pretty incredible when you think about it, the use of visual effects helps enhance our viewing experience.
While visual effects have certainly improved over the years, especially when it comes to CGI and how it’s used, they are nothing new to cinema. The legendary Georges Méliès pioneered the use of special effects and filmmakers from Ray Harryhausen to Michel Gondry and everyone in between have been using them since.
