Home Is Where the Horror Is in the Teaser for Trey Edward Shults’ It Comes at Night

A24 and the director of Krisha see something terrifying in the darkness.

Three days ago, A24 dropped a wonderfully creepy yet simple poster for It Comes at Night, young auteur Trey Edward Shults’ follow-up to his widely acclaimed debut Krisha. The film’s very first teaser is now here, and it is every bit as stressful and terrifying as you’d imagine.

It Comes at Night tells the story of a father (Joel Edgerton) who will stop at nothing to protect his wife (Carmen Ejogo) and son from an unnatural evil right outside their doorstep, only for things to be complicated by the arrival of a couple desperately seeking refuge (Chris Abbott and Riley Keough). Not much plot is given away in this terrifyingly cut teaser, which only hints at the many horrors that await through the sound of screams and Brian McOmber’s unsettling score. Also enticing is the darkly beautiful widescreen cinematography of Drew Daniels, who has graduated from the hyperrealistic sheen of Krisha to something much more cinematic.

A24 will release It Comes at Night on August 25th.
