Theaters About to Be Attacked by Onslaught of DC Comics

If there’s one thing the fanboy community loves it’s comic book adaptations. That and a giant bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. But who doesn’t love those? They’re delicious. Fortunately, DC fans will have a lot of chances to sneak in a bag or two into theaters when a solid amount of films come to a big screen near them.

As it turns out, the mild-to-moderate success of The Dark Knight has emboldened DC via Warners to bring a lot more heroes to the screen. Whether or not this is completely foolish or ingenious has yet to be seen. Here’s what we can expect:

  • The Losers – Jeffrey Dean Morgan (that guy that gets thrown out of a window in Watchmen), Zoe Saldana (that chick that makes out with Spock in Star Trek) and Chris Evans (that guy that makes out with Spock in Star Trek) are starring in the adaptation of the long-running series that was recently taken over by artist Jock and Andy Diggle. The film starts shooting this week, and has the perfect title for critics to make fun of in review headlines if they don’t like it.
  • Jonah Hex – The scarred Western anti-hero is being played by Josh Brolin, and filming wrapped last week. John Malkovich and Megan Fox are also involved, but only one of them is wearing a garter belt.
  • The Green Lantern – Ryan Reynolds is playing Hal Jordan. So we’ve heard. A thousand times.
  • Red — Making sure they get every color taken care of, DC is also working with Summit to produce an adaptation of the Warren Ellis comic of the same name. It features Bruce Willis as a retired CIA agent and a hell of a lot of intrigue.

Four films may seem like a drop in the bucket for some, and Neil would certainly consider all of these characters as B-level comic books, but this is more titles in production from DC than ever before. Clearly, they did not get the memo about the comic adaptation boom being over. Looks like they plan on personally extending alongside the likes of Iron Man 2 and whatever Superman title that we can add to this list later in the year.

What do you think?
