I woke up this morning, did my normal amount of advanced physics problems, ate my usual steak, and watched my daily episode of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. Everything was going as planned, until I stumbled upon that concept art for The Green Lantern that everyone seems to be gabbing about.
It blew my mind, and I’ll tell you why after you check it out for yourself:

I realize fully that it’s just concept art, but I love the fact that they are playing so realistically with these characters. I know that that will turn some possible viewers off, but I’d rather have a Green Lantern Corps that’s true to form to tell the best possible story. I’m not the biggest Green Lantern fanatic. I know enough to know that there’s a completely blind Green Lantern (or Green Bell in that case), that there’s a Green Lantern that’s a complex mathematical equation, and one that’s a virus. That gives you some idea of my level of excitement for the characters.
But I never expected Martin Campbell and company to get this far out. And I’m loving it.
A quick and dirty guide:
- Top Left: Abin Sur, the protector of Earth who, in a certain way, becomes a catalyst for the story.
- Top Right: Tomar Re, a close friend of Abin Sur and a trainer.
- Bottom: Kilowog, also a trainer of new Lanterns.
I’m impressed. There’s still a chance that the production will scale it back and human-wash all the characters, but if they don’t, they’ll end up with a much cooler movie no matter how comic book-y it ends up being.
