The Most Important Detail Yet About John Wick 2

By  · Published on June 7th, 2016

Yeah, it’s about a dog.

Fans of the first John Wick know what’s really important when it comes to the upcoming sequel. And so does Ian McShane, one of the few surviving cast members from the original.

McShane, who has been on a roll with an appearance on Game of Thrones this past weekend and the filming of American Gods, sat down with EW to talk about his current and future work – including the long-anticipated Deadwood movie, which he says is still in the works. Among the topics discussed: whether or not John Wick, as played by Keanu Reeves, will get a new dog:

“Keanu gets a new dog.”

He explained further: “It’s all about the assassin’s code, if you like. He’s killed a Russian gangster and now there’s a contract out on him, so it’s a continuation. I loved the first one. This could be even better than the first.”

It’s hard to imagine anything being better than the first John Wick. The 2014 actioner was a whirlwind of vengeance over the loss of a very special dog. Many a bad guy – including Game of Thrones’ Alfie Allen – was lost at the hands of a reluctantly unretired assassin who thought he was out, only to be dragged back into a meticulously groomed criminal world.

For those who may have missed John Wick the first time around, here’s a 6-minute taste of what directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch delivered:

Yup.

John Wick 2 is due in theaters February 10, 2017.
