Truly, what this world needed was a feature film based entirely around Johnny Knoxville wearing old man makeup. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa offers just that- Knoxville cracking wise and debasing himself horrifically in front of total strangers, this time with the help of Jackson Nicoll (best known as the kid from Fun Size). Prepare to cringe, then watch after the break.
This is now the fourth Jackass film to be released theatrically, so by now everyone should know exactly what to expect and whether they’re a part of Bad Grandpa’s target audience. Still, this latest outing has one trick up its sleeve- narrative coherence. Unlike previous films, which existed solely as showcases for various unspeakable acts, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa will weave a story in between its various pranks. Doing so does add a small sense of newness to the film; even so, it’s still just a collection of farts and pratfalls, now just with a slightly shinier sheen.
And the trailer’s best moment is blatantly swiped from Little Miss Sunshine. One the one hand, it’s pretty amusing to watch real-life child pageant moms recoil in horror at an little girl doing a striptease. On the other hand, it’s an obvious copy with little added (but for brief bit of rain makin’). But, back on that other hand, wouldn’t it be clever to do an entire film of real-life movie pranks?
Anyway, you’ve surely made up your mind on Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa before you even watched the trailer.
