The Supporting Players

Beric Dondarrion

Thrones Characters Beric

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: In season seven, Beric is captured by wildlings while traveling with Sandor and the Brotherhood Without Banners. Eventually, they team up with Jon and travel north to capture a wight. The mission goes south and Thoros loses his life, meaning that Beric will no longer be able to be brought back from the dead. Beric still has some inner sight, as he tells Sandor they will meet again and tells Jon that killing the Night King will end the entire wight army. In the season finale, Beric witnesses the fall of the Wall.

Drogon

Thrones Characters Drogon

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: An MVP of season seven, Drogon takes fiery center stage at the loot train attack, roasts defiant soldiers who won’t bend the knee, lets Jon get close to him, and carries Daenerys to the meeting in King’s Landing.

Ellaria Sand

Thrones Characters Ellaria

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 3, “The Queen’s Justice”

Where we left off: The Dornish and the Lannisters have long-since played a game of vengeance, which started back in season four when Oberyn Martell–Ellaria’s lover–comes to King’s Landing to avenge his murdered sister and instead ends up slaughtered by Gregor Clegane. After that, Ellaria plants a poisoned kiss on Cersei and Jaime’s only daughter, Myrcella. Most recently, Euron Greyjoy captures Ellaria and the show’s last Sand Snake, Tyene, delivering them to Cersei, who swiftly gives Tyene another poisoned kiss and locks Ellaria away to watch her daughter die.

Euron Greyjoy

Euron Greyjoy

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: The Iron Island king is ruthless and crass, yet he recently won Cersei’s eventual hand in marriage by bringing her Ellaria and Tyene Sand as a gift. He keeps Yara hostage, destroys some of Dany’s fleet at Casterly Rock, and performs a fake-out at the parlay, saying he’s returning to the Iron Islands out of fear of the wights when he’s actually headed to Essos to meet with Cersei’s sellswords.

Gilly and Little Sam

Thrones Characters Gilly

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: Sam’s beau has long been an underrated ally, from her help discovering the powers of dragonstone to her stumbled-upon realization that Rhaegar Targaryen annulled his marriage and remarried in a secret ceremony (pertinent clues to Jon’s true parentage). She and Little Sam eventually leave the Oldtown with Samwell when he grows weary of the maesters’ ways, and the pair arrive at Winterfell by season’s end.

Gregor Clegane

Thrones Characters Gregor

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: Cersei’s walking weapon, The Mountain is present wherever the queen goes. At the parlay, he’s on the receiving end of threats from his brother Sandor, and though Cersei later threatens to sic Gregor on Jaime when the latter leaves her side, the reanimated man doesn’t move to act.

Grey Worm

Thrones Characters Greyworm

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: After sharing a tender moment with his lover Missandei, Grey Worm and the Unsullied armies attempt to take Casterly Rock and find their fleet of ships destroyed by Euron Greyjoy. Later, he and the Unsullied join the Dothraki forces in standing guard outside the King’s Landing parlay. Afterward, he sails to White Harbor with Dany and her allies.

Jorah Mormont

Thrones Characters Jorah

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: After being miraculously cured of greyscale by Samwell Tarly, Jorah is welcomed back into Daenerys’s ranks with open arms. In season seven, he joins the expedition to capture a wight and witnesses the death of Viserion. Later, he seems to pick up on a connection between Jon and Dany when the group heads back north after the parlay with Cersei.

Melisandre

Thrones Characters Melisandre

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 3, “The Queen’s Justice”

Where we left off: After being excommunicated from the north for orchestrating Shireen’s death, a more muted and apparently apologetic Melisandre appears in Dragonstone to declare that Daenerys could be “the prince who was promised.” She urges her to team up with Jon Snow and, after the two have met, declares that her mission to unite ice and fire has been accomplished. Though she is leaving for Volantis, she prophecies to Varys that she will die in Westeros.

Missandei

Thrones Characters Missandei

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: A former slave and current member of Dany’s council, Missandei is mostly present in recent seasons as a watchful and deliberate right-hand-woman. In season seven she consummates her relationship with Grey Worm, chats with Jon and Davos about the peculiarity of traditions like marriage, witnesses the meeting at King’s Landing, and ultimately sails to White Harbor with Dany and allies.

The Night King

Thrones Characters Night King

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: Originally created to protect the Children of the Forest from the First Men, the Night King has gone a bit off track in the last few thousand years. Most recently, his army of White Walkers has gained an undead dragon–thanks to his super precise ice javelin throwing skills–and are making their way past the newly-fallen Wall.

Podrick Payne

Thrones Characters Podrick

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: The faithful squire spends most of his recent screentime with Brienne, sparring and admiring the Stark family reunion, though he also attends the King’s Landing meeting and is able to exchange a few words with old friends Tyrion and Bronn.

Qyburn

Thrones Characters Qyburn

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: Westeros’ very own Dr. Frankenstein has become rather close with Cersei as she’s descended into near-madness. In season seven, he builds her a dragon-killing instrument called the scorpion, tells her she’s pregnant, and witnesses the presentation of the wight at the King’s Landing meeting.

Rhaegal

Thrones Characters Rhaegal

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: Dany’s dragon isn’t able to save his brother Viserion during a battle with the undead army, but he does later appear in King’s Landing to show off his powers during the parlay with Cersei.

Sandor Clegane

Sandor Clegane

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: The Hound most recently traveled north with a group that included Thoros, Berric, Jon, Jorah, Tormund, and Gendry to capture a wight and present it to Cersei. There he witnesses Thoros’ death (which he failed to prevent due to his fear of fire) as well as Viserion’s. In King’s Landing, he threatens Gregor, teasing the long-held “Cleganebowl” theory. After the parlay, he sails to White Harbor with Jon, Dany, and other allies.

Tormund Giantsbane

Thrones Characters Tormund

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: After surviving an ill-fated northern expedition with the help of Sandor Clegane, Gendry’s borrowed hammer, and Dany’s dragons, Tormund ends up back at Eastwatch where he witnesses the Night King’s army felling the Wall.

Varys

Thrones Characters Varys

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: Varys teamed up with Dany last season, joining her inner circle after explaining that his allegiance will always lie with the people of the realm, not their ruler. He agrees to tell Dany if she ever began to fail at her position, and he later questions her execution of the Tarlys while speaking with Tyrion. At one point Melisandre tells Varys that, like her, he’s fated to die in Westeros. Varys was present at the finale meeting in King’s Landing and is last seen sailing to White Harbor.

Viserion

Thrones Characters Viserion

Last seen: Alive in Season 7, Episode 6, “Beyond the Wall” and resurrected or undead in Season 7, Episode 7, “The Dragon and the Wolf”

Where we left off: When Dany’s trusted dragon attacked the army of wights beyond the Wall, he fell prey to the Night King’s spear and was killed. In the season finale, a newly resurrected Viserion with glowing blue eyes brings down the Wall with a blast of blue fire.

Yara Greyjoy

Thrones Characters Yara

Last seen: Season 7, Episode 3, “The Queen’s Justice”

Where we left off: After making off with the Iron Fleet during Euron Greyjoy’s watery coronation, Yara and her brother Theon make an alliance with Daenerys Targaryen which leads them on a journey towards Dorne. On the way, Yara’s newfound connection with Ellaria Sand is cut short by her uncle Euron, who burns her fleet and captures them both along with Tyene Sand after Theon literally jumps ship. In King’s Landing, Yara is pelted with pieces of fruit and imprisoned by Cersei Lanniser, although Theon and his remaining crew later begin planning a jailbreak.
