Joseph Gordon-Levitt is hot stuff in Hollywood right now, and his directorial debut Don Jon is either the next step up in a long and fruitful career, or a one-time experiment. Watch the newest trailer after the jump (courtesy of Yahoo! Movies) and decide for yourself.
Gordon-Levitt and costar Scarlett Johansson have the Jersey thing down pat, but this trailer seems to be downplaying one of the film’s most promising aspects: its lead character’s porn addiction. This trailer spends its time selling Gordon-Levitt’s Jon Martello as a notraditional, non-romantic guy, but it’s sole smutty moment comes off more as a ‘caught in the act’ bit that’s already shown up in every sitcom known to man. Really, this trailer is an introduction to the basic aspects of his character more than it is anything else. Along with dodging the porn thing, there’s not a lot of story on display either (which finds Jon tired of his cheap thrills and one-night stands and in the search for something a little more meaningful).
Gordon-Levitt seems equally confident as writer, director and star, so hopefully the next bit of footage we see from Don Jon dives a little deeper into the juicy details.
