Clooney to be Attacked by ‘Machete’-Wielding Mexican on Labor Day

Despite giving away the entire point of the article in the headline, I’ll continue typing to share with you that Machete is going to see its release on September 3rd of this year. That’s 2010 in case you are just now rousing from your Windex binge.

The film, directed tag-team (back again!) style by Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis sees Danny Trejo as a vigilante, ex-Federale who is hunting down Robert de Niro’s character and being hunted by Jessica Alba’s character. Something tells me he’ll be headed in the wrong direction the entire film.

According to a press release from Fox, the movie will hit theaters on the same weekend as George Clooney’s The American. Both films happened to make it onto our Most Anticipated of 2010 List, meaning that most of the writers at FSR will have a tough choice come Labor Day. Most of all Rob Hunter, because that’s how long the kidnappers gave him to round up the money.

For the rest of us who don’t owe money to extortionists, we’ll be tempted to either see an American spy film or an American revenge film that has a decent amount of Mexican street cred.

What do you think? Which do you plan on checking out?
