A Sample of the Knowledge Dropped When 43 Filmmakers Took Over Twitter

If you’re a filmmaker of any stripe (amateur, hobbyist, aspiring, professional, Spielberg), you may want to bookmark this as a resource to return to.

Yesterday, Ava DuVernay and over 40 other filmmakers took to Twitter under the #ARRAY hashtag for a 12-hour marathon of insight and inspiration. Names like Debbie Allen, John Singleton, Ryan Coogler, Tyler Perry, George Tillman Jr., Gina Prince-Bythewood, Shaka King, Justin Simien, Tim Story, and a virtual army of others offered advice, helped raise money for the African American Film Festival Releasing Movement, and got #ARRAY to trend worldwide.

What follows is a lead-in from DuVernay from earlier in the month – discussing the “wake up” response she got following the Oscar nominations – and a relatively small (I swear) sample of some of the information and zen koans of the event curated by my deep love of scrolling.
