Paramount Pictures
Zoolander 2 is definitely happening, and now we can mark our calendars with a release date: February 12, 2016. That’s a good date-night comedy for Valentine’s Day weekend, especially for those couples who’ve been together since the first movie (and aren’t more interested in checking out Deadpool). When Derek and Hansel and even Mugatu return to the big screen, it will have been almost 15 years of waiting for the fans. Can it possibly live up to expectations? Or will it make a soft landing, a la the Anchorman sequel?
At least Paramount is buffering the anticipation a bit by already teasing out the second Zoolander movie. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson reunited in character earlier today in Paris, at a fashion show, of course. They walked the runway, strutting their goofiness, and the studio followed the publicity stunt with announcement of the release date. I can’t tell if there was any filming going on at the Valentino Women’s Collection Fall/Winter 2015–16 event, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some images from this morning show up in the movie. At least this picture with Anna Wintour:

Zoolander 2 will also bring back Christine Taylor as Matilda, and rumor has it that she and Derek now have a teenage son who is smart and not attractive (fat even). Added to the cast this time is Penelope Cruz and also hopefully a lot of appearances from the fresh-faced society elite, maybe even some who were barely (or not even) alive when the first Zoolander opened. Justin Theroux is taking over as director, so there better be at least a Jennifer Aniston cameo.
See Stiller and Wilson’s runway appearance in the video below.
