My movie watching was slim this weekend as I’m currently exploring parts of Alaska with a friend, and between close encounters with Big Horn Sheep atop a mountain and the ground thunder emanating from tidewater glaciers I’ve had little time for cinema. I’m not complaining.
The singular exception over the past couple days came in the form of the Kate Beckinsale/Luke Wilson thriller, Vacancy. It’s not a great movie, but while I’ve seen it before my friend had not. I suggested we watch it, and she agreed with no knowledge as to its content… did I mention we’re currently staying in a Seward motel where we’re the only guests, the hotel clerk actually left the premises at 8p and the buildings around us appear deserted?
Needless to say the film’s great idea and mediocre execution worked like gangbusters in this locale. And now she’s piled our bags in front of the door in the hope that we’ll have warning in case of an intrusion.
