Shot by Shot with the ‘Watchmen’ Trailer

Alan Moore won’t be a fan of HBO’s bold new vision for the sequel series, but the rest of us will be.
Watchmen

A carnival has turned into a bloodbath. This massacre is also quite reminiscent of the scenes of carnage in New York that took place in the comics, so perhaps history is repeating itself, albeit in a rural area?

The pirate flag that Ozymandias rides by is a shout-out to Tales of the Black Freighter, Watchmen’s comic-within-a-comic. In the Watchmen universe, the American comics industry is dominated by pulpy pirate adventure stories, whereas superhero fare is obsolete.

Cut to Laurie being held captive. It’s safe to assume that her captors are the Seventh Calvary, and they probably want to probe her about her past life.

Here we see Nite Owl’s ship, the Archimedes, crashing down in a field. It remains to be seen if Don Johnson will step out of it, but it’s safe to presume that the character will feature in the series.

The trailer ends on a humorous note, with Laurie telling Angela that it looks like she has things under control. She doesn’t.
