Every Wes Anderson film is a panoply of color, a rich mixture of various tints within various hues that when taken as a whole form a soft-spoken palette in which his stories are painted. Other directors manipulate color, but Anderson has mastered it, and with each new film he broadens his spectrum a little farther by incorporating new subtleties of shade that recur and inform the effect and impact of his work.
In the latest succinct compilation from Lyric Payne, each color utilized by Anderson in his film Moonrise Kingdom is pulled apart from the rest then delineated into its various shades as represented by clips from the movie. By viewing them out of context and back-to-back like this, our appreciation of Anderson’s production design and costuming is augmented owing to how much thought the director has put into the undercurrents running beneath his main storyline.
