Shot by Shot with the ‘Underwater’ Trailer

‘Underwater’ isolates its heroes from society and pits them against a school of mer-monsters. No complaints here.

Norah stares into the darkness and suggests that they turn off their lights. As the swimming nightmare known as the anglerfish understands, life is attracted to bright glimmering beams. Walking in darkness is a safer bet than making your presence known with an array of luminescence.

Norah’s thought is all for naught as a mer-monster lunges for them in the dark. The beast has the classic webbed claws of The Creature from the Black Lagoon or those pesky beasties from The Trench of Aquaman. Their face splits at the mouth similar to the Predator and is filled with dentistry that even Corbin Bernsen could not handle.

Norah is not dragged into the dark depths like her faceless partner. Phew. They make it to the station, or back to the laboratory, but so do the mer-monsters. Water floods the rig, forcing the team to remain in their Nostromo attire.

Norah crawls amongst the wreckage of the rig and stumbles upon the corpse of an unlucky fellow. “Why is this happening?” Humanity meddled where they should not have.

As the oceans rise, our time at the top of the food chain has come to an end. The time of the mer-monster is here.

The Captain scrambles around his ship. He mutters, “There is something following us.” Above him, we get a shot of a blobby mer-monster. Is it one beast or many? If they were dealing with a school of killers, I would imagine that the crew would be chum rather quickly. A single mer-monster could be toying with their food.
