The Rise of Composer Mica Levi Continues

By  · Published on February 6th, 2017

Her next project involves director Brady Corbet and star Rooney Mara.

Yesterday, The Film Stage broke the news that musician-turned-film-composer Mica Levi (Jackie, Under the Skin) will score Brady Corbet’s upcoming Vox Lux. Following his critically acclaimed 2015 directorial debut The Childhood of a Leader, Vox Lux will be an epic musical drama following the life of a woman who survives a traumatic shooting and goes on to become an international pop star. Rooney Mara will play the lead, while Jude Law and Stacy Martin have signed on for supporting roles. As the film will no doubt rely heavily on music, it makes sense that Levi will be joined by multi-platinum singer Sia, who will be providing a full soundtrack of original music.

This announcement continues a pattern for Levi, who just recently became the fifth female composer ever to be nominated for an Oscar. Having composed the scores to Under the Skin, Jackie, Marjorie Prime (a sci-fi romance that played at Sundance last month) and now Vox Lux, Levi seems to be keeping up a trend of scoring intense and challenging character studies centered on women.

Financed by Bold Films (Whiplash) and Sierra Affinity (Manchester by the Sea, The Place Beyond the Pines), it will also be produced by Christine Vachon under Killer Films (Carol, Wiener-Dog). Vox Lux is expected to premiere in 2018.
