The First ‘Captain America’ Trailer Definitely Works

There’s nothing like seeing a super hero fire a gun. It breaks all the rules but still makes sense, especially if that hero is firing a weapon against Nazi(-like) scum.

There are a few things that stand out in this first trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger, but you should watch it for yourself first:

A few cool things:

  • Chris Evans is toned down considerably for the part. This isn’t the same sarcasm-spilling smart mouth he normally plays, and that’s a good thing.
  • The tone here is big adventure which absolutely works for a character like this.
  • “Now, Mr. Stark.”
  • Gotta love that.

There’s really nothing negative to say. It’s exciting, fun, looks incredible. All the right notes.

Tommy Lee Jones provides most of the momentum for this trailer with his gruff no-nonsense This Man’s Army voice. Add in a little light humor from Stanley Tucci and Hayley Atwell, and a tease of the face-ripping Red Skull, and you’ve got a ball game.

Still, it’s interesting that we don’t get to see much of Captain America battling other than some slow motion moments and an admittedly great shot of him throwing the shield. This trailer is an origin story, and I have a feeling, like that beaten Hydra thug, this will only be the first of many.

What do you think?
