Shyamalan Goes Back to His Roots with Bruce Willis and New Film

We’re all familiar with the rise and fall of M. Night Shyamalan. There’s no need to retread it, but there is need to point out that he’s hoping for the twist in his own career story to be that a bald, ass-kicking child will put him back on top.

If The Last Airbender is able to do it, Shyamalan could see himself enjoying the kind of praise and power that came with his early career.

According to Heat Vision, he’s still at least acting as if that power and appeal still exists because he’s still making executives read his script under strict confidence with an assistant nearby ready to snatch up the tome and fly away on a giant eagle as soon as the decision-maker is finished reading it. Secrecy is important. Especially when he imbues each and every script with something we’re not supposed to know going in – like the fact that Bruce Willis had hair the whole time.

Speaking of which, Heat Vision is also reporting that Shyamalan’s assistants are hard at work monitoring studio executives who are reading a brand new script from the writer/director, and this one has Bruce Willis, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Bradley Cooper attached (for the time being) to star. This would be the first time since Unbreakable that Shyamalan would be teaming up with Willis. In the grand scheme of things, that’s not necessarily an earth shattering possibility, but considering that the height of the What A Twist-meister’s drawing power was directly tied to Willis’s involvement, it could be another step on the path toward creative redemption.

Wouldn’t it be great if the twist turned out to be that it was Shyamalan’s career that was unbreakable?

Man, I haven’t had to pull out the sarcasm italics in a long time.
