See Gareth Edwards’s ‘Monsters’ For Yourself in October

If you spent any time checking out our SXSW coverage, you probably noticed a few pieces on Monsters, the romance/horror/alien-love-making-movie-that-isn’t-Splice movie from director Gareth Edwards. You probably also noticed that, like most movies coming out of festivals, there wasn’t a release date for you to hang your excitement on. Without it, your excitement just sat there in the air like a man waiting for a bus in the rain. Fortunately for your excitement, he can rejoice, because his metaphorical bus has arrived.

According to the press release, Monsters will be on screens in New York and Los Angeles on October 29th.

From there, who knows. For those of you who don’t live in those cities, your excitement will have to hang tight just a little bit longer, but with any luck, Magnet will be casting the net wide and satiating that engorged excitement.

After all, you can’t help but want to see a journalist and a rich girl traipsing through Northern Mexico where the landmass has been inhabited by giant alien lifeforms, sharing their sarcasm with each other and floating on the light air of political commentary.

It’s an interesting concept, and an even more interesting execution. I thought it was a bit better on its own than Neil did, but no matter what, it’s a film (and a director) to look out for.

Hooray!
