Warner Bros. has been toying with the idea of a Deathstroke film for some time. Originally it was to have him included in a Batman story of some sort, but now it looks as though the character will get a stand-alone feature.

THR is reporting that The Raid director Gareth Evans is being tapped to direct a feature starring Deathstroke for Warner Bros. Joe Manganiello (Magic Mike XXL) is currently in talks to take on the mask of the assassin. The plan originally was to have the character appear in the Batman movie written and directed by Ben Affleck. He can even be seen in a tweet shared by Affleck as possibly early footage of Deathstroke in Justice League. Since that project has changed wildly since initial conception, the idea has changed to let the character have his own film and it could be a star vehicle for Manganiello.

Deathstroke is a villain that originally appeared in Teen Titans. He has since been adapted into many other DC properties including several Batman-related. His character has been seen in live-action before where the Slade Wilson/Deathstroke appeared on CW’s TV series Arrow.  He processes enhanced strength, speed, agility, and durability because of an experimental serum. He also has an ability to use more of his brain power than normal humans (think Scarlett Johansson in Lucy) and has a healing ability similar to that of Marvel’s Wolverine. Basically, he has a ton of special abilities.

Director Gareth Evans would be the perfect fit for the mercenary/assassin. With his background directing The Raid films, he would feel right at home. There is little doubt that Deathstroke would be incredible action film at the very least with Evans on board.

It remains to be seen whether or not Evans and Manganiello will sign for Deathstroke, but we can’t help to think this would be an ideal situation for everyone involved.
