Paramount Passes on ‘Anchorman 2’

The bad studio punted Baxter. Apparently, through Adam McKay’s twitter feed, the world is learning that Paramount Studios has passed on teaming up with the director and Will Ferrell for a sequel to Anchorman.

The money quote here:

So bummed. Paramount basically passed on Anchorman 2. Even after we cut our budget down. We tried.

Sometimes trying is all you can do, and sometimes all you can do is cross the street (read: Los Angeles) and take your project to any of the other studios that care to make a comedy with a known star and built-in audience.

We’ve been anticipating the prospect of an Anchorman 2 film for quite some time, although no one was really sure when McKay would shoot for it considering he’s got a busy schedule of possibles all lined up.

Let’s hope for now that this set back is just that, and that it won’t keep the movie from being made and enjoyed.
