In Our Homeland (Kazoku no kuni), director Yong-hi Yang further explores North Korea by way of a young man born in Japan who was exiled there and returns to visit his family. The film is Japan’s entry for Best Foreign-Language Film at the upcoming Academy Awards. Yang’s documentary Dear Pyongyang is available over at Amazon.

The trailer (via The Film Stage) shows off an uncomplicated style and a delicacy that seems to act as a serving platter for what must be a heartbreaking existence.
