A man, possibly Bond but probably not, falls through the ice and struggles for escape.

Safrin and his masque stare down into the icy void. The shattered effect on the masque somewhat mirrors the scarred face beneath. He continues his thought regarding Bond’s fragility, “Mine will survive long after I’m gone.” The baddie is considering his legacy. He wants to leave his imprint on the world, and whatever his special set of skillsĀ are, they will radically alter the natural order of the planet.

Safrin is a typical Bond villain: a utilitarian decorator who would rather populate his secret base with goons than colorful works of art. No chairs cuz he likes to see his opponents on his knees.

Bond is not having any of it. He resorts to his favorite method of speaking, spitting venom, “History isn’t kind to men who play god.” We get our first proper shot of Safrin. His scarring does not appear as dramatic as it did on the ice. Is his condition a result of his work with Leiter’s missing scientist?

John Barry‘s score explodes. Flashes of action commence. Paloma goes full-Hong Kong cinema. No need for a reload. Every inch of her is a weapon.

She does not let a party dress get in the way of Captain Kirk’ing a chump in the chest.
