There’s a solid chance that Ghost Rider 2 has already messed with your mind for simply existing. In the real world where things fall due to gravity, the sky is blue, and dogs definitely don’t live with cats, a movie failing as thoroughly as Ghost Rider did would ensure that it wouldn’t get a sequel. Not only is it getting one, it’s getting a reboot disguised as a sequel featuring the same main actor.
Is your mind messed with yet? If not, please accept Nic Cage’s comments on the matter:
I’m very excited about what we’re getting up to with Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, they are very original in terms of their film making. Mark is doing things I’ve never seen a director do before ‐ filming on roller blades, hanging on wires ‐ it’s like a stunt man, camera operator and director all in one. Brian Taylor is really so knowledgeable about film. In the same conversation, in the same sentence even, I can talk about Michael Powell’s Peeping Tom and then go into Ishirô Honda’s The War of the Gargantuas. He’s the reason why I’m playing the Ghost Rider as well. He really was an advocate of that, and inspired me to take that on. As a result of that we’re getting into some really abstract stuff that I think will mess with people’s minds. I’m really looking forward to it.
So Mark Neveldine is doing his best impression of a Sonic waitress, and Brian is talking classic shop with Cage. These two situations alone make for an exciting set. That doesn’t necessarily translate to what’s on screen, but it’s always nice to know that there’s a sense of fun going into the cameras rolling.
Plus, Nic Cage being crazy is the main reason to love Nic Cage. In fact, from this point forward, no movie featuring Nic Cage should avoid messing with people’s minds. Every headline from his interviews should read: Nic Cage Promises That [Whatever Movie He’s Making] Will Mess With Your Mind.
Can you dig it?
