New ‘Ocean’s 8’ Trailer Presents a Gold Mine of Talent

This movie is taking all our money.

There’s a new trailer for Ocean’s 8, and it shows more footage as if we still actually need anything more than a list of the names of the actresses on board. Of course, the last reworking of an Ocean’s movie, Steven Soderbergh’s own Logan Lucky, should have performed too.

This spot does give a little more hint of the roles each of the women are playing and the roles those characters are tasked with on screen. But are we still meant to think Anne Hathaway‘s celebrity character isn’t somehow involved in the heist of the $150 million necklace she’s wearing?

That’d be pretty silly if that subway shot where’s obviously a member of the 8, which was the first officially revealed image for the movie, was a twist reveal.

Hopefully there’s more to the story than that, because with this much talent on display portraying women as clever as this octet looks, I’m hoping not to feel robbed in the end.

Debbie Ocean gathers a crew to attempt an impossible heist at New York City’s yearly Met Gala.

Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side) stars in the title role, alongside Cate Blanchett (Carol), Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables), Richard Armitage (the Hobbit Trilogy), Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project); Awkwafina (Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising); Sarah Paulson (American Crime Story), James Corden (Into the Woods), with Rihanna (This is the End) and Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech).

Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, The Hunger Games) directed Ocean’s 8 from a screenplay he cowrote with Olivia Milch (Dude), story by Ross. Steven Soderbergh and Susan Ekins produced the film, with Michael Tadross, Sandra Bullock, Diana Alvarez and Bruce Berman executive producing, and Milch co-producing.

Ross’s behind-the-scenes team included director of photography Eigil Bryld (In Bruges), production designer Alex DiGerlando (Beasts of the Southern Wild), Oscar-nominated editor Juliette Welfling (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly), Oscar-winning editor William Goldenberg (Argo), costume designer Sarah Edwards (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), and composer Daniel Pemberton (Steve Jobs).

Ocean’s 8 opens on June 8th.
