Shot by Shot with the ‘Mulan’ Trailer

Disney's latest live-action remake looks quite good.

The enemy once again makes its presence felt. In the first scene, Khan leads his army into battle. Elsewhere, Lang turns into a bird and flies away.

In this scene, Tung reveals that he thinks something is holding Mulan back. He doesn’t question her willingness to fight, but he knows that she’s hiding something.

Mulan then journeys into the mountains for some alone time, which is understandable considering that she’s under a lot of pressure. The scenery in this scene is also stunning, so Disney at least scores points for finding some beautiful locations.

Welcome to Mulan’s first taste of battle. She’s very good at avoiding an onslaught of arrows, but her colleagues will likely find a few wedged in their chests. It’s also worth noting that the scale of this battle scene is pretty mighty, so expect this movie to be a true Disneyfied war epic.

Mulan finally comes face-to-face with Lang. The witch tries to manipulate the warrior by saying that the Emperor’s army will show her no mercy when they discover her real gender.

The trailer ends with Mulan, no longer hiding her true identity, getting ready for battle. All in all, it’s a strong trailer that proves the studio has a fresh vision for this remake.

Mulan opens on March 27, 2020.
