A group of the Emperor’s soldiers enter the village and tell the citizens that they are under attack from northern invaders. The leader (Ron Yuan) will reveal some more bad news for the villagers in a few moments.
Switch to the invaders causing chaos throughout the land. The army is led by Bori Khan (Jason Scott Lee), a hun soldier intent on avenging his father’s death.
In this scene, the Chancellor (Nelson Lee) brings the Emperor (Jet Li) up to speed on who their enemies are. The Emperor doesn’t utter a word, but he knows he has some big decisions to make.
In addition to Khan, they must contend with Xian Lang (Gong Li), a powerful witch who can dispose of multiple opponents with ease. These foes also don’t believe in letting people survive, so the fallen soldiers we see here are likely only a small fraction of their body count.
