Nothing could go wrong with this Dora the Explorer adaptation.

Haven’t you always wanted to see little Dora blowing things up with her massive rocket launcher? Unfortunately, Michael Bay is only producing the new Dora the Explorer movie so those dreams will have to wait. According to THR, Paramount is starting work on their live-action Dora the Explorer series based off the hit Nickelodeon series that ran from 2000-2014.

Nick Stoller, famous for his work on Neighbors and The Muppets, has been hired to write the script for the project. Apparently, the movie has been on the docket for quite awhile but is just now picking up steam to come to fruition. Paramount previously has Tom Wheeler (Puss in Boots) writing and Mary Parent producing in 2015. The movie will be taking a slightly different approach from the TV show, depicting a teenage Dora who moves to the city to live with her cousin Diego.

Dora the Explorer was a massive hit for Nickelodeon, with over 172 episodes aired of the young American Latina and her adventures. Along with her trusty monkey, Boots, she solved puzzles and went on epic quests. The popularity of the character led to plenty of merchandise including clothing, toys, and other apparel. There were also spinoff shows such as Go, Diego, Go and Dora and Friends: Into the City.

There is currently no director attached to the project, but just for a second imagine if Michael Bay was directing it. For one, it might be extremely similar to this fantastic parody trailer from College Humor back in 2012 starring Ariel Winter from Modern Family. It has everything Bay loves: intense action, based on a children’s property, and lots of guns and explosions. Bay also doesn’t have the best track record working with young women either with how his camera lingers on Megan Fox in the Transformers movies. All that being said, he was also the producer on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and that turned out…Ok, we’ll just stop there.

Dora the Explorer is getting fast-tracked to a 2019 release so expect to hear more on the project very soon.
