Just in Time for Christmas: the 2016 Holiday Movie Montage

The gang’s all here.

You guys didn’t think we were going to go all this week without bringing you a montage of Christmas movies, did you? That would be ridiculous. No other holiday is associated as closely with movies as is Christmas, and before you chime in with Halloween, those are horror movies, very few take place on the actual day itself. Christmas movies, however, take the holiday not just as their setting, but they also adopt its themes: caring, charity, goodwill, peace on Earth, rampant commercialism, competitive shopping, and a big heaping pile of unnecessary stress.

In picking our holiday film montage this year, we wanted something that balanced these warring sides of the Christmas spirit, the nostalgic with the absurd, and I think we found just what we were looking for in this little gem from Darth Blender, who has taken clips from 30+ movies across the spectrum and mixed them into a brief treat sure to bring a smile to even the most miserly Scrooge. It’s got family fare, romantic comedies, regular comedies, dramas, horror films, animated specials and even a fantasy flick or two. And underneath it all it’s imbued with a sense of wonder, the kind we share between the holidays and the movies that represent them, because for a lot of us, this time of year and the medium are indistinguishable.

So grab some eggnog, stoke the hearth and wrap yourself up nice and tight, cuz you’re about to get a shot of Christmas movies right to the heart. Happy Holidays!
