Jeffrey Wells is reporting from Hollywood Elsewhere that “the deal is sealed for Josh Brolin to star in Jonah Hex“! Wells claims “a friend” has confirmed that Brolin was “locked down last night.” It’s not clear if this is simply Hollywood lingo or if something else is going on here, but I look into Wells’ eyes and I have to trust him. Sure Brolin’s reps are denying the report and saying he’s not attached to the project, but that’s to be expected.
Warner Bros. will be releasing the film to be scripted and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the duo also responsible for the hyper-kinetic shit-stain that is Crank and the under-appreciated sleaze fest Pathology. Jonah Hex is based on a comic character created by John Albano and Tony DeZuniga, and is about a western dude who fights Indians, zombies, ghosts, Nazis… depends on which comic series you read I guess. (And he may not have actually battled Nazis.)
You’ll recall Thomas Jane was once rumored for the role, a rumor he himself started, before Neveldine and Taylor shot the idea down. If you liked Jane as Hex, will you settle for Brolin? He can do bad ass. He can wear a cowboy hat. He can shoot a gun. He can ride a girl’s bike. And he can next be seen in Oliver Stone’s W. where he’ll be doing all of the above.
What do you think of Brolin as Jonah Hex?
