The second trailer for IT: Chapter Two sees the adult iteration of the Losers’ Club — portrayed by James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, Jay Ryan, James Ransone, and Andy Bean, return to their hometown 27 years after the horrifying events of the first film, to put a stop to the evil that dwells there once and for all.

If the trailer is anything to go by, the Andy Muschietti-directed sequel to his highly successful 2017 Stephen King adaptation looks like one of the scariest horror movies in a while.

While the trailer avoids revealing too much information, fans of the source material will pick up on a few key moments from the book here and there. The new film isn’t shy about adapting some of the novel’s most terrifying and controversial moments either — so don’t expect a generic horror film that relies on cheap jump scares to get a rise out of the audience.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at the trailer and break down some of its key moments.

It One

The trailer opens with an establishing shot of Derry. Here, the town looks idyllic, but we all know that’s not true. The voice of an adult Mike Hanlon (Isaiah Mustafa) recalls how those who leave the town forget all about it.

In this scene, we revisit an innocent time of children being children — before their lives were changed forever.

Mike chose to remain in Derry to look out for signs of Pennywise’s return. The missing child posters add an air of menace, as it’s natural to assume that the evil clown never went away and is still out there claiming victims.

This scene appears to be based on one of the most disturbing passages in the book, which sees Adrian Mellon (Xavier Dolan), a gay man, attacked by a homophobic gang and tossed over the side of a bridge. Once he regains his bearings in the water, he encounters Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård).
