Danny Boyle is currently riding high on the release of his latest film, Slumdog Millionaire, and he stopped by Empire Magazine to promote it even more. While there he took part in a web chat answering questions from fans online.

The most interesting comment to my eyes though was his mention that was recently asked to direct the impending US remake of Chan-wook Park’s Lady Vengeance. (He didn’t say what his answer was though…) The film is the denouement to Park’s loose revenge trilogy after the bleak darkness of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and the brutal brilliance of Old Boy. Lady Vengeance is an excellent film in it’s own right, and it veers from Old Boy tragedy to unexpected comedy. It’s still wonderfully violent and twisted though, and has a strong performance from Yeong-ae Lee in the title role.
Boyle says elsewhere in the chat that it’s about time he did a film with a woman as the central character, if only so he could get on the cover of Empire. When asked what his ideal woman is he replied “Well, Freida Pinto of course. And also Kelly Macdonald. Kerry Fox. Cameron Diaz. Michelle Yeoh. Naomie Harris. Etcetera.” Honestly, I don’t see any of them as Lady Vengeance… so here’s hoping he takes the job and brings Charlize Theron back onto the project. I’d love to see Boyle return to the gritty violence and crazy immorality of Shallow Grave so I’m hoping he signs on soon.
