‘I Saw The Devil’ Teaser Makes Us Giddily Tumescent

Okay, maybe that ‘us’ should simply be ‘me.’ Because hot damn I’m excited for this movie!

Kim Ji-woon is the brilliant director behind The Quiet Family, A Tale of Two Sisters, A Bittersweet Life, and The Good the Bad the Weird, and while his name isn’t tossed around as often as Park Chan-wook’s and Bong Joon-ho’s his talents are most definitely on par with them both. His new film is I Saw the Devil and it stars Lee Byung-hun (G.I. Joe) as a man devastated by his girlfriend’s murder who chooses to channel that grief into rage and sets out to get revenge on the serial killer played by Choi Min-sik (Oldboy). Check out the first teaser below.

Sweet.

Kim has proven himself time and again to be an incredibly visual director as well as one who values narrative and character. And while I love The Good the Bad the Weird, it’s definitely nice to see him returning to the darker themes of his past films. Let’s hope a company like IFC picks this one up to guarantee it’s treated right.

I Saw the Devil opens in South Korea this summer and should hopefully reach our shores sometime soon after…
