After months and months of racking my brain over it, a film project has finally pointed out what was missing from He’s Just Not That Into You and Valentine’s Day: a bunch of women climaxing and the invention of the vibrator.
Thankfully, Maggie Gyllenhaal has signed on for just such a romantic comedy project where she’ll play daughter to a doctor (Jonathan Pryce) who helps insane, crazed, hysterical (read: slightly irritated) women of the sexy Victorian age by placing a vibrating massage tool where their Victorian’s Secret should cover.
Uncover the details of Hysteria.
Hugh Dancy and Rupert Everett, as contractually bound to appear in all Victorian era-set films, appear as well – one of them being the love interest for Gyllenhaal’s character.
Plus, apparently the vibrator gets invented by mistake. Gyllenhaal told The Guardian this:
“I play a firecracker whose father is a doctor who is in the business of curing hysterical women. He cures them basically by getting them off and that actually happened. I end up having a sort of unexpected love affair with this guy who works for him, and who by mistake invents the vibrator.”
I have to assume that’s also how the sex swing got invented.
Director Tanya Wexler is aiming for a 2011 release.
