Here’s what’s coming to Amazon Prime this month!

Amazon Prime is the only streaming service with a cost that also gets you free shipping, and that my friends is a deal. They’ve recently gotten into the Original programming game, but their biggest offering remains the ton of films available to watch anytime for Prime members.

The complete list of titles hitting Amazon Prime this month — February 2018 — is below, but first I’m going to shower some affection and point some eyeballs towards a few specific titles.

The Best

I know some might find it in bad taste to recommend a movie starring Kevin Spacey, but here we are all the same. Swimming with Sharks is still a terrifically dark comedy and a mean-spirited gem made by hundreds of people not named Spacey, so to pretend it doesn’t exist isn’t fair to them. If that argument doesn’t suit you, though, maybe this will… he spends half the movie being tortured by Frank Whaley.

New for You

This months’s new releases to Prime include a pair of acclaimed indies with Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky (available 2/16) and the Safdie brothers’ Good Time (available 2/11). I’m not the biggest fan of either, but I’m in the clear minority so what the hell do I know. Breathe (available 2/10) didn’t find the same degree of praise, but Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy do solid work with this love story set against a health tragedy. I haven’t seen The Ballad of Lefty Brown (available 2/13) yet, but a western with Bill Pullman in the lead role should be an automatic watch.

Toe Pick!

There’s no proof that I saw 1992’s The Cutting Edge on opening weekend in theaters, but I can vouch for it being a fun little romantic comedy set against the sport of figure skating. I can confirm, though, that I’ve never seen The Cutting Edge: Going for the Gold which came out in 2002. Is it a sequel or just a continuation of the clearly hot brand? No idea. Let’s find out together.

Attack of the Remakes

Some remakes are good, some are bad, and four of them are new to Amazon Prime this month. 2009’s Star Trek (available 2/14) is the best of the bunch as it rebooted a massive franchise to even greater heights. Jan de Bont’s The Haunting (1999) can’t match the original, but it delivers its own fun and chills. The less said about Rollerball (2002) and Sabrina (1995) the better.
