Director/actor Eli Roth recently spoke with MTV about his upcoming plans which include a “revolutionary double-barreled” idea to film two movies back to back!
Roth is currently polishing a turd script set to be his previously announced, big-budget science fiction blockbuster. He won’t reveal the title yet, but he can say the movie will be “really fun with lots of mass destruction.”
I wanted to do something along the lines of Transformers or Cloverfield that was a little more science fiction-based, and with lots of chaos and mass destruction. I don’t want to say what [the monster is] yet,” Roth added. “Once it gets set up, I will let everyone know. It is not aliens or robots or a virus – it’s a little more grounded. But when people hear it they are going to be like ‘That is going to be insane!’.”
The revolutionary part of Roth’s diabolical plan is that he plans to film two movies from a single collective budget. The sci-fi extravaganza would be followed by his hotly anticipated slasher film Thanksgiving. That film’s genesis of course came as one of the faux trailers attached to Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’ 2007 double-feature Grindhouse. Roth expects it to be “the sickest, bloodiest, most violent slasher movie… I want to make the highest body count slasher film I can.” How do you say no to that?
The plan is this: I want to do a huge budget movie, but tack on three weeks to the end of it and shoot ‘Thanksgiving’,” he revealed. “I want to do an $80 million dollar movie, and then schedule three weeks at the end to quickly shoot a $5 million dollar movie.”
Roth’s films (Cabin Fever, Hostel) have so far been mildly entertaining, albeit fairly stupid, but I think his idea here is pretty interesting. The trick now is finding a studio to front him the $85 million…
