‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Reveals First Teaser Poster, Cap’s Need for a New Coat of Paint

There’s still a little over a week before Comic-Con unleashes all sorts of trailers, posters, and other goodies upon a horde of screaming fans, but Marvel has decided to whet fans’ appetite a little early with the first teaser poster for Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The image is a simple one: just Cap’s shield, minus the paint job and plus some realistic battle damage. The lack of shining reds, whites and blues says that allegiances will be blurred, while the scuffs and scratches say that Steve Rogers’s physical abilities will be pushed to their breaking point. It’s a decent idea, but the impact isn’t quite what it should be because The Dark Knight Rises had this very same idea a year ago with the image of a broken bat-cowl. Take the iconic gear of a superhero, then smash it. To a lesser extent, even Iron Man 3 did the same thing with a poster of Tony Stark plummeting to earth in a busted Iron Man suit.

But the battered shield certainly does its job in building up hype. The upcoming sequel will have its own panel at Comic-Con and will certainly have plenty in store for those eager for more of Cap’s adventures. Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters on April 4, 2014, and stars Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson.
