Cage and Reynolds to Play Prehistoric, CGI Odd Couple

In what I have to assume is another attempt to adapt the GEICO ads into a real story, Variety is announcing that Nicolas Cage is teaming with Ryan Reynolds to play CGI-captured cavemen in The Croods.

According to the world’s foremost trade magazine, I have to pay to read their publication, but the joke’s on them since I can still see even when they dim the entire page. Eye-squinting is worth not paying for something that should be ad-supported in the first place. Speaking of which – man, that ad above this article sure looks attractive and clickable.

Speaking of attractive and clickable, I have no idea what to think about this news. None. As usual, Cage has stunned me into silence just by being present in a casting announcement. I never know whether to expect Ghost Rider-Cage or Bad Lieutenant-Cage.

So that variable is voicing the Conservative Father Figure while Reynolds plays the Dashing Progressive Guy Who Wants to Bed the Conservative Father Figure’s Cave Daughter. How they fit that character name in the script, I’ll never know.

The other x-factor is that Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco are writing/directing which means that Cage won’t get to be nearly crazy enough, and it will probably be fairly safe comedy.

So stay on the back of your seats until 2012 when it comes out.

What do you think?
