‘The Boys’ Are Coming to Amazon Courtesy of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg

‘Supernatural’ creator Eric Kripke will also be part of the core creative team in this new comic book adaptation.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s new show, titled The Boys, has been greenlit by Amazon, according to Variety. The superhero drama will be the next Rogen-Goldberg comic book adaptation to hit the small screen.

The Boys will run for eight episodes at an hour long each and will explore celebrity culture in the superhero world. A group of vigilantes that calls themselves ‘The Boys’ seeks out corrupt superheroes who indulge in the dark side of fame. ‘The Boys’ don’t have powers of their own, but “blue collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty” prove to be their strongest characteristics in their fight for justice.

The Boys was created and written by Eric Kripke (Supernatural, Revolution, Timeless), who will also take up showrunner responsibilities. Meanwhile, Rogen and Goldberg are slated to direct episodes of The Boys. Kripke, Rogen, and Goldberg will executive produce the show.

After first finding acclaim with their AMC drama Preacher, Rogen and Goldberg seem determined to stay in the Garth Ennis business; Ennis co-created both Preacher and The Boys. Further extending support from the Preacher family are production companies Original Film and Sony Pictures Television Studios, both of which will executive produce The Boys as well. “We are very happy to have the unique opportunity to produce a second series based on the subversive and innovative world of Garth Ennis,” said Chris Parnell, Co-President of Sony Pictures Television Studios.

Sharon Tal Yguado, Head of Scripted Series at Amazon Studios, expressed optimism in the creative direction of The Boys in an official statement: “In a landscape saturated with superhero shows, ‘The Boys’ is the next evolution in this popular genre. With Eric, Evan, Seth, and Original Film all behind this series, we are excited to adapt this popular comic, from the visionary minds of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, for television.”

The Boys is scheduled to begin filming in the spring of 2018, with a goal to be released on Amazon Prime the following year.
