Vin Diesel won’t be confined to doing voice roles for teenage trees forever.

Outside of Fast & Furious, Vin Diesel is likely best known as the voice of the lovable tree, Groot. The Guardian of the Galaxy actor has had some success bringing franchises to life (most notably Pitch Black), but little else. The Wrap is reporting that Vin Diesel is in talks to star in Bloodshot, one of two planned films for Valiant Entertainment.

Valiant Entertainment isn’t that well known outside of comic book circles. Sony has taken up the task the getting a cinematic universe going for the company and the character of Bloodshot is their most promising. Previously Jared Leto was attached to the role, but Vin Diesel seems like the better choice. Bloodshot is an unstoppable soldier with the ability to regenerate and meta-morphing due to nanites being injected into him. During the comics original run, it was extremely popular and Bloodshot was basically a killing machine. Nowadays though the comic focuses on Bloodshot’s mindset and what exactly this life has cost him everything.

There is also mention that the feature film would follow the footsteps of recent R-rated superhero blockbusters, Logan and Deadpool, while simultaneously being inspired by Robocop, Terminator, and Total Recall. Those are a whole lot of prominent named in the film, but whether or not Bloodshot has what it takes remains to be seen. It will certainly be an uphill battle with a character few audiences really know. If successful though, it could be the beginning of highly lucrative business for Sony as they have their own superhero comics to derive feature films from.
