The scarecrow behind Huntress is a fun nod to Huntress’s background in DC lore. The character had a storied feud with Scarecrow in the comics, so perhaps she’ll have a history with him in the cinematic universe as well.
If you look closely here, you’ll notice an “Ace Chemicals” sign in the background. In the comics, this is where the Joker fell into a vat of waste, which caused him to look the way he does and become his prankster alias. Given that the building is in flames in this scene, we can only assume that Harley caused the explosion as some form of therapy. By blowing up the place where the Joker was essentially birthed, she can break free of his emotional stranglehold.
Cassandra calls Harley “that psycho chick.” Our heroine takes offence to the word “chick” and tells the youngster that she should instead call her “broad, lady, woman, and on occasion, bitch.” During the conversation, the pair also throw explosives out of the window to thwart the goons who are chasing them. It’s a great way to end a wonderful trailer.
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) arrives in theaters on February 7th.
