Because You Asked For It: ‘Ice Age 4’ in 3D

Back in 2002, the nation was looking to heal, and it found that salve in the form of Ray Romano’s dulcet tones. Now, 16,000 years later, he may have the opportunity to bring those tones back to the world in woolly mammoth form as Fox promises another Ice Age movie.

According to the shortest article published by Variety ever, Ice Age: Continental Drift will be making more money than you ever expect to upon its release in Summer 2012.

This is unsurprising, considering the massive amount of money earned by the previous films, and the incredibly love of money that businesses like the studio system seem to have.

What’s most interesting is that the film will be competing with some heavy-hitters. Ice Age is currently set for the July 13th sweet spot between the opening of the Spider-Man reboot and the sequel to The Dark Knight.

This, to me, is brilliant positioning. It claims a spot early on expecting to steal a bit from Spidey while targeting a fairly different crowd and hopes not to lose much of that target to Christopher Nolan and company the following week.

Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg considering that the film will mostly likely take in a murderous amount overseas (if history is any indication), so we’d need to see when they plan on releasing it abroad.

I bring up the box office because I honestly have nothing to say about the content of another Ice Age movie. It’s paint-by-numbers at this point, and they could release the thing without any of its major voice talent returning and no one would notice.

Except you’re dying to see it aren’t you?
