A month ago, we reported on the short list of young talent that Sony was eying for their reboot of Spider-Man. All in all, the list was fairly average. There were no stand outs in particular, but all of them would be passable as the web-slinger. Jamie Bell, Alden Ehrenreich, Andrew Garfield, Frank Dillane, and Josh Hutcherson are basically the same actor with different haircuts. At least Sony knows what they want. The news today being passed around the horn is that…a few names have dropped, a few have been brought on, and we’re back to where we started.
While tempted to run the same discussion post again and simply replace the two names that got dropped off, I decided to give the story as much due as its owed:
- All the names you thought would drop off did. Ehrenreich, Dillane, and Hutcherson (although there are conflicting news reports as to whether he’s still in the fight). They’ve been replaced by Kick-Ass’s Aaron Johnson, Anton Yelchin, and Logan Lerman (who was on the original list, then off it, then on again, off it, and now back on!)
- Jamie Bell and Andrew Garfield are still being considered.
- Apparently, an announcement is forthcoming, just like it was a month ago.
If you’re like me, you’ll be waiting for late July where, at Comic-Con, Sony will announce the new five-person slate of young talent their considering. Who will they drop off next and who will replace them? What five names will float around the internet a month from now? Will it be Jamie Bell and Four Donald Glovers? Will they be bold and cast Sam Raimi as Peter Parker?
The possibilities are so damned exciting.
Wake me up when someone gets the job.
