2014 is shaping up to be the Year of Kevin Hart. The actor’s steady rise to fame has landed him major roles in four films next year – Grudge Match, Ride Along, About Last Night, and Think Like a Man Too. Now all he needs to do is lay low after 2014, pop back up twelve years later for another Year of Kevin Hart, and he might finally become part of the Chinese zodiac.
But twelve years is a long time to wait, so entertain yourselves with the newest trailer for About Last Night:
From the trailer, this looks to be your run-of-the-mill romantic comedy. But About Last Night has a few things going for it (and a few going against it). In the “for” column is Hart and that the film is based off a David Mamet play entitled Sexual Perversity in Chicago (which was already adapted once, way back in 1986), so it’s definitely got the makings of greatness. In the “against” column is director Steve Pink, whose sole credits before About Last Night are Hot Tub Time Machine and Accepted. Those who are looking to see a more intellectual Mamet adaptation might not be so thrilled. But they could probably figure that out from the trailer.
More importantly, however, is the point about halfway through the trailer where we cut to our characters at a costume party without properly informing us we’re about to cut to a costume party. So here I am, suddenly wondering why Hart’s clothes fell off and Michael Ealy’s character decided to grow a terrible mustache. Please, people: telegraph your costume parties far in advance.
