A Paul Walker-Starring ‘Fast and Furious 7’ Will Join a Franchise-Crowded 2015

According to Vin Diesel, Fast and Furious 7 will see theaters in April 2015. It was planned for July 2014 until Paul Walker’s death put the project on hiatus.

From his Facebook page, Diesel shared a picture that including this message:

“The last scene we filmed together…

There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared… in the film we were now completing… the magic captured… and, in just how far we’ve come…”

Perhaps the best news is that Paul Walker will still be a major part of the finished film. Any other decision would have been wrong.

For fans, it’ll be a long wait, and I’m incredibly curious to know why the studio has chosen to push it back so far. My best guess is that they knew they wouldn’t be able to make the deadline for a Summer 2014 release but didn’t see any time before April the following year as advantageous (although super fast cars would be perfect to break the prestige monotony of November). That points to a production that’s decided on moderate to heavy changes (reshoots, etc.) after taking its hiatus. Although, it also means that they wanted to avoid the tentpole-crowded Summer of 2015 that kicks off with Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1st.

For the time being, as the lone blockbuster in the slot, the movie will have April 10, 2015 and the following weeks all to itself.
